Red Horn Coral
Red Horn Coral if found in Utah. It is over 390 million years old back
when Utah was part of the ocean. The coral over millions of years fossilized
with impregnated colorless agate. This is very
difficult material to find, because the mine where it comes from was closed due
to being included into a National Monument. Fossil Horn Coral is agatized. So,
it cuts like agate and takes a fine polish with tin or cerium oxide and diamond. It has hardness 6.5 to 7. |
